🎬 We’re excited to share that the Rochester Youth Filmmaking Initiative (RYFI) was recently featured on Fox Rochester’s Good Day Rochester!
As we work toward bringing our debut feature film, Farrin, to life in Rochester, we’ve been thinking about how this journey can extend beyond the film itself. Farrin, a Jamaican-American story rooted in Rochester, represents an opportunity to bring independent filmmaking into our local community in a meaningful way. RYFI is part of that journey: an opportunity to build connections, create access and involve the next generation of storytellers as we work toward getting the feature into production.
The RYFI is a FREE two-day immersive filmmaking program for Rochester teens ages 14–18. Taking place January 9–10, 2027, the initiative will give students hands-on training with industry professionals in camera operation, lighting, sound recording, editing and acting. Participants will create an original short film using professional-grade equipment and have the opportunity to shadow or assist on the set of Farrin when filming begins in Rochester in spring 2027.
For us, making Farrin is about more than getting a film in front of the camera. It’s also about creating opportunities for the community to engage with independent filmmaking, discover their creative potential and see themselves as part of the stories being told.
